Fezile Dabi homebrew Dance Drama Festival 2016
The Fezile Dabi Homebrew Theatre and Dance Festival is aimed at ensuring that theatrical creative energies are harnessed and channelled properly for sustainability purposes. It was also conceived with the view to building capacity in theatre production and to appreciate theatre practitioners of the Free State province.
Homebrew Theatre and Dance Festival can also be defined as a performing arts program with its target market being theatre practitioners; drama practitioners, comedians, poets, musical theatre practitioners and dance practitioners who started practicing between 1995 and 2015.
Key strategic decisions are deployed to ensure sustainable growth and development that will ensure that Free State theatre practitioners benefit maximally from the festival program.
These include:
- Enhancing the competition to ensure ultimate entertainment, competitive standards, capacity building and sustainable growth for the sector.
- Identification of Macufe Homebrew Theatre and Dance Festival as the provincial hub culminating from a marathon of 5 district Festivals.
- Positioning Macufe Homebrew Theatre and Dance Festival as the provincial mainstream theatre and dance prize platform.
- Enhancing seasonal income and return on investment by collecting ticket sales, providing subsidy for transport, accommodation and meals while providing rewards for artistic excellence.

A district festival will be open to all applicants from groups/companies and organizations practicing drama, comedy, poetry, musical theatre and dance. All participating entities should be practitioners who are out of school and adults. No scholars/learners will be allowed to be part of the casts.
- Dance will be defined as traditional and/or contemporary and will be limited to a minimum of 45 minutes but not exceeding 60 minutes.
- Drama production will be defined as one act play and limited to a minimum of 45 minutes but not exceeding 60 minutes.
- Poets will be expected to render 4 poems but not less than 2.
- Comedy will be based on a story or theme and limited to maximum 45 minutes.
Musical theatre will have drama, poetry, music and dance if necessary and shall be limited to 80 minutes should there be only 1 entry, if entries are more than 1 the duration will be limited to 60 minutes.
