A fatal accident claims two lives on the N18 near Vryburg
The North West MEC for Social Development was involved in a fatal accident on the N18 near Vryburg this afternoon which resulted in her vehicle rolling several times and catching fire. Nkewu was travelling from Mahikeng to Taung.
The accident involved MEC Kgakgamatso Nkewu, two VIP protectors and a bicycle driver who has also passed on and his identity cannot be released at this stage as his family is yet to be officially informed.
The two protectors who survived the accident are hospitalised and are in a critical state.
Premier SOR Mahumapelo has received news of MEC Nkewu’s demise with disbelief and shock and the government delegation are to meet with the family and further details will thereafter be released.
“This accident represents a tragic loss to the family, the North West Provincial Government and to the entire country. The Provincial Government has lost an extremely hard working public representative who lost her life while on duty,” Mahumapelo said.
