A family receives a house after boy dies of shack fire

A Jouberton family whose lives was almost destroyed after they lost their 21-year son  during a devastating shack fire few months ago can now afford to smile. This is after a visit  by MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe who was accompanied by officials from the department.

Lebogang Moashoetsi lost his life after a shack that he shared with his mother and siblings caught fire from a paraffin heater. Moashoetsi and his siblings were sitting around the paraffin heater when one of the siblings went out and took a tin of full paint and used it as bench got heated and exploded inside the shack that’s when that shack caught fire, and he was burnt to death.

The horrific incident was forgotten and joy filled of spirit as Sophy was preparing to move into her new house. ”I can’t begin to express my happiness, I am out of words. I never thought in my life that I will eventually own a house with services such as electricity after pleading and making long and stressful trips to municipal offices. This house has indeed changed my live and wiped off my tears’’, she said.

MEC Gaolalolwe visited the family during her visit to a number of housing projects in Jourberton where she subsequently warned contractors to refrain from doing shoddy work or else they will have their company blacklisted.

“As part of reconciliation, healing and renewal (RHR) in Bokone Bophirima, dealing with issues of moral and social cohesion, past experiences, pains emanating from the past, will continue to change the lives of our people within this context (RHR) in particular to impoverished rural communities, restore their dignity through housing development" she said.
