Police arrest suspects for selling fake matric certificates

Busted for selling fake matric certificates, remanded in custody

Joel Mpotle (38), Tebello Mohale (39), and Lefa Ntshasa (49) who are accused of fraud have been remanded in custody by the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court where they appeared on Tuesday, following their arrest on the 31th December 2016.

Mpotle, Mohale and Ntshasa were nabbed by The Hawks Anti-Corruption and Crime Intelligence after they sold a fraudulent Umalusi Senior Certificate to an undercover police officer for an amount of R3 000 at a Shopping Complex in Botshabelo.

The operation was conducted after information was received that the suspects were constructing and selling Umalusi Senior Certificates.  The trio were nabbed in the act of selling fraudulent matric certificates. Investigations revealed that Mohale was previously convicted to five years and three years suspended for a similar offence. Their first appearance was on the 3 January 2017.

The suspects will appear in the same court  on Tuesday, 17 January 2017 for formal bail application.
