Parliament’s Human Settlements Committee visits EThekwini Municipality, 22 to 23 Sept

EThekwini Municipality last stop for human settlements committee

Members of the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will spend Thursday 22 and Friday 23 September 2016 measuring the extent to which the eThekwini municipality has been able to deliver quality houses and relevant amenities to its residents.

The Committee will first receive a briefing from the municipality as well as the provincial and national Departments of Human Settlements. This briefing will take place at the municipal offices from 9am.

The Committee and municipal and departmental delegations will then proceed to conduct site inspections in projects such Hampshire, Lamontville slums, Cornubia 1B and Glebalands.

On Friday 23 September, the Committee will focus on the eThekwini’s implementation of the Rectification programme as well as the implementation of the Financed Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP). FLISP is a subsidy for residential properties in formal towns, where transfer of ownership and registration of mortgage bond is recordable in the Deeds Office.

The Committee is in the province on a week-long oversight visit and has thus far visited three municipalities, making the eThekwini the fourth and last municipality to be visited in this round.
