Department of Labour hosts employment equity (EE) roadshows in North West and Northern Cape with stakeholders to strengthen EE implementation and compliance mechanisms
It is again that time of the year in which the Department of Labour will be conducting workshops/roadshows throughout the country in the nine Provinces on Employment Equity (EE).
The aim of the workshops nationally is to create awareness on compliance with the Employment Equity Act and compliance mechanisms. The EE roadshows are held under the theme: “Transformation - makes business sense”.
This week two EE workshops will be held tomorrow (August 17) at the Orion Hotel - 1 Donkerhoek Road in Rustenburg, North West Province; and on Thursday (August 18) at Horseshoe Inn - 100 Memorial Road in Kimberley, Northern Cape Province. The national series of roadshows started on Monday (15 August 2015) at the Hotel Promenade in Mbombela (Nelspruit), Mpumalanga Province.
The workshops/roadshows in addition to creating awareness on compliance with the Employment Equity Act, their objective is to publicise and prepare the employers with the requirements needed to be used when submitting their online 2016 EE reports to the Department.
The department will also be sharing with the stakeholders the status of employment equity in their respective provinces emanating from the launch of the 16th Commission for Employment Equity’s (CEE) Annual Report on 25 April 2016. The 16th CEE Annual Report is based on the reports that have been submitted by designated employers in the 2015 reporting cycle.
It has always been the tradition of the department to ensure that all stakeholders in the labour market are conversant with any changes to the labour laws, regulations and Codes of Good Practice. Thus, the workshops/roadshows will also share with stakeholders the changes that have been effected in the reviewed Code of Good Practice on the Employment of Persons with Disabilities published on 9 November 2015.
The Code in its sense is a broader equality agenda for persons with disabilities to have their rights recognised in the labour market, where they experience high level of unemployment and often remain in low status of employment.
The interesting part of the workshops is that the department has also partnered with the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to present cases on unfair discrimination linked to the listed grounds (i.e. race, gender, disability etc. or on any other arbitrary ground.
The target group for the workshops/roadshows include, employers or heads of organisations, academics, assigned senior managers, consultative forum members, human resource practitioners, trade unions and employees. The workshops will end in the Gauteng Province in Johannesburg on 20 September 2016. The EE national roadshows presentations are held from 09:00-14:00.
Meanwhile, the EE Online and Manual reporting season opens on 1 September 2016.
