Employment and Labour launches Workers Month Campaign in Bloemfontein, 3 May

The Free State Department of Employment and Labour is set to launch the Annual Workers’ May Month Campaign. Led by the department’s Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) Unit, the campaign will entail a series of inspections in all sectors across the province and for the entire month of May. This is in keeping the the Department’s mandate of protecting vulnerable workers.

The objective of this campaign is to inform, advise and educate employers, employees, community, role-players and stakeholders on the provisions of the amended National Minimum Wage, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act, Unemployment Insurance Act, Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act, Public Employment Services Act, Compensations for Occupational Injuries & Diseases Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.  

Moreover, to achieve the desired impact, the department’s IES unit will through this campaign test the levels of compliance by employers with various labour laws, register incidents relating to occupational health and safety matters, promote health and safety in the workplace educate. The campaign will follow and integrated approach comprising all streams and competencies within the IES namely; OHS Inspectors, Employment Standard Inspectors, Employer Audit Inspectors and Employment Equity Inspectors.
