Energy Minister Joemat–Pettersson and Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Magwanishe to conduct electrification project inspection at Sun City Section C Village in Mpumalanga

The Minister of Energy, Tina Joemat-Pettersson and the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Bulelani Magwanishe will conduct a walk-about of the 1 048 households electrified by Eskom (an entity of the Department of Public Enterprises), utilising DoE funds disbursed through the Integrated National Electrification Programme (INEP) in Sun City Section C village, near Kwaggafontein in Mpumalanga on Thursday, 9 June 2016.

The walk-about is a build-up event to the Presidential Siyahlola (Monitoring) event in Kwaggafontein on Friday, 10 June 2016. The Presidential visit is aimed at assessing progress made towards the provision of service delivery in the area.

The electrification of Sun City Section C in Kwa-Mhlanga is confirmation that Government is on track with the electrification programme as stated by StatsSA on 7 June 2016 - that the percentage of connected South African households increased from 77,1% in 2002 to 85,5% in 2015.

The Statistician-General announced that the largest increases were noted in the Eastern Cape, with +27%, followed by Limpopo with +20.4%, KwaZulu-Natal with +12,8% and Mpumalanga with +11,9%. The Departments of Energy and Public Enterprises (Shareholder of Eskom) and Eskom SOC are prioritising rural provinces such as Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Eastern Cape for electrification.
