Electoral Commission briefs media on Tlokwen Municipal by-elections, 18 Feb

The Electoral Commission has received correspondence from lawyers representing Tlokwe independent candidates which raise a number of concerns regarding next week’s by-elections in Tlokwe and which seek an urgent meeting between the candidates and the Electoral Commission.

Engaging directly with candidates and political parties as a primary stakeholder in the electoral process is an integral part of any preparations for elections and the Electoral Commission has been meeting with all the stakeholders on an on-going basis in the run-up to next week’s elections. In this spirit, the Electoral Commission has indicated that it is available to meet with the independent candidates as a matter of urgency tomorrow morning to address any concerns they may have regarding the process.

The Electoral Commission would also like to avail itself to the media as another key stakeholder in the electoral process to outline the process followed to date in preparing for next week’s by-elections.

The media are invited to a media briefing at 14h00 on Thursday 18 February at Election House, Riverside Office Park, 1303 Heuwel Avenue, Centurion, to discuss preparations and readiness for next week’s by-elections.
