Elderly persons in Christiana get title deeds

The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima in on a mission to ensure home ownership and this came into practice when 10 elderly persons in Utlwanang and Boitumelong near Christiana, were recently handed over title deeds. Over 1000 title deeds will be handed over to the rest of the beneficiaries in both areas.

Handing over the title deeds, MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe said the title deeds not only serve as proof of ownership but it can also be used as an asset to build wealth.

“We have prioritised the elderly because they have been waiting for a while. By so doing, we want to show them we love, care and have not forgotten them,” MEC Gaolalolwe was accompanied by the Mayor of Lekwa Teemane local municipality, Kagiso Palagangwe.

One of the beneficiaries, 91 -year-old pensioner Mtemi Mtshwawo said she could not sleep with ease knowing she has full proof of ownership of the house she is currently sharing with her grandchildren. ‘I am old and frail but I am now happy that my children have a place they can call home and have proof to that effect.
