Eastern Cape Legislature hosts Raymond Mhlaba Memorial Lecture, 3 Jun

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will host a Memorial Lecture in honour of Raymond “Oom Ray” Mhlaba under the theme “Denouncing racism and building social cohesion: Lessons from the life of Raymond ‘Oom Ray’ Mhlaba”.

The Memorial Lecture which seeks to advance and realise our collective aspirations for a non-racist South Africa will be attended by Members of the Provincial Legislature, representatives of the Mhlaba family, South African Local Government Association, Municipality Mayors and Speakers and Institutions Supporting democracy amongst others.

Oomph Ray, a stalwart of the struggle who dedicated his life to oppression, was the first Premier of the Eastern Cape between 1994 to 1997. He stood for the principle of equality and dignity as well as the right to be treated without discrimination.
