Eastern Cape Legislature hosts SoPA schools debate, 12 Mar

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will host the State of the Province Address (SoPA) Schools Debate tomorrow where 32 learners from the six District and two Metropolitan Municipalities in the Province will debate the Premiers SOPA speech delivered recently.

The debate will be attended by the Speaker of the Legislature, Ms Noxolo Kiviet, Premier of the Province, Mr Phumulo Masualle, Members of the Executive Council (MECs), Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) and about 500 other learners from schools around the Province.

This debate which creates a platform for learners to actively participate in government programmes will take place on Saturday, 12 March 2016 at 8h30 at the Raymond Mhlaba Chamber. Participants will compete in four categories i.e. SeSotho, IsiXhosa Home Language, English First Additional Language (FAL), English and Afrikaans as Home Languages (HL) under these topical issues:

  • English HL – Transforming the economy to create jobs
  • English FAL – Rural Development and food security
  • IsiXhosa HL – Better health care for all
  • Afrikaans – Ensuring quality education
  • SeSotho – Fighting crime and corruption and food security
