Eastern Cape Legislature holds public hearings on Expropriation Bill

EC Portfolio Committee on Roads and Public Works embarks on Expropriation Bill public hearings, 18-20 April 2016

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Roads and Public Works will hold public hearings on Expropriation Bill in different parts of the Province next week. The Bill seeks to provide for the expropriation of property for a public purpose or in the public interest, subject to just and equitable compensation. It also grants a general power to the Minister of Public Works to expropriate for purposes connected with the execution of his or her mandate, which includes the provision and management of the accommodation, land and infrastructure needs of the state. Members of the public and organisations interested to make comments on the Bill are invited to attend the public hearings. The Bill can also be downloaded from the Legislature website at www.eclegislature.gov.za / Twitter: @eclegislature. Written submissions must reach the Committee Co-ordinator on or by no later than 26 April 2016.
