Eastern Cape Legislature conducts Voter Education Campaign, 20 Jun to 25 Jul

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature (ECPL) in collaboration with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will embark on a Voter Education Campaign from 20 June to 25 July 2016 in a bid to educate citizens to exercise their right to make democracy work. Voter Education campaign is an instrument to enhance public participation as the cornerstone for constitutional democracy.

The campaign seeks to contribute towards an increase in voter turnout during the 2016 Local Government Elections through a variety of awareness and mobilisation initiatives. It is also aimed to assist the IEC in its task of delivering a free, fair and efficient election. As responsible citizens, members of the public eligible to vote are encouraged to participate in the elections to make democracy alive. Local community radio stations will create awareness as part of build up ahead of the campaign.

Members of the media are  invited to join the Legislature and its partners this coming Monday, 20 June 2016 at 09h00, in Peddie next to the First National Bank and Traffic Department.
