Eastern Cape EXCO visits schools to assess state of readiness

The Eastern Cape Executive Council led by Premier Pumullo Masuale will tomorrow the 13th January 2016 be scattered throughout the province assessing schools’ readiness for the new school year. The Premier will join Education MEC, Mandla Makupula in visiting the Port Elizabeth Education district with a particular focus on schools identified as having underperformed in 2015.

The EXCO will also meet and engage with the education districts and local school communities during this visit. The idea behind the readiness programme is to:

  • Ensure that all schools are ready for school opening;
  • To ensure that teaching and learning commences on the first day of schooling calendar;
  • Establish reasons for school underperformance; and
  • Identify focus areas and critical areas for school monitoring and support

The EXCO led by the Premier will first be visiting Gelvandale High School before going to the district and meeting all education stakeholders. Despite the scheduled meetings by the exco with the stakeholders, all School Admission Teams will also be visiting district schools to ensure that learners are admitted accordingly.

The media is especially invited in this session as the EXCO will be giving a detailed and programmatic approach of the department in addressing issues affecting education service delivery in this education district.
