Western Cape Human Settlements hands over houses in Velddrift, 17 Dec

Early Christmas Present for Noordhoek, Velddrift Beneficiaries

On Thursday, 17 December 2015, Ministerial Advisor to MEC B.S Madikizela Mr Willem Steenkamp and Saldanha Bay Municipality will hand over forty houses in Noordhoek, Velddrift. This project will yield 107 houses when completed and the Provincial department of Human Settlements has spent a budget of over R18 million on this project.

The Beneficiaries who will be receiving these houses are all over 40 years and this reflects the Department strategic goal to prioritize the elderly and those with special needs.

This project is an example of Government’s current approach toward creating sustainable human settlements as articulated in its Breaking New Ground (2004) housing policy. Breaking New Ground (BNG) is a shift away from the previous RDP approach (1994-2004) of delivering houses lacking in sustainable qualities to one where housing delivery allows people to be part of sustainable human settlements rather than simply recipients of a government delivered house.

All members of the media are invited to attend this event.
