Water and Sanitation works towards resolving contractual issues between Bicacon and Londcare

The Director-General of the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), Ms Margaret-Ann Diedricks and her team this afternoon met with a sub-contractor from one of the projects in KwaZulu-Natal, namely Londcare.

The meeting was necessitated by the unhappiness of the sub-contractor with its relationship with the main contractor, namely Bicacon. This unhappiness revolves around allegations of Bicacon not having paid to Londcare what was due to it as per the work done.

The directive from the DG is that the department will work towards a meeting between the main contractor and the sub-contractor, where the two parties can and should resolve their differences and agree on what is owed by who to whom.

In the best case scenario, the department would even prefer to have an independent arbitrator between the two instead of the department playing that role. As the DWS the interest of the department is that the matter be resolved quickly, correctly and amicably. It is in the department’s interest that no service provider be compromised.

The DWS hopes that with all effort by all parties towards a common goal a resolution will be found in the shortest possible time.
