Trade and Industry hosts South Africa– India business and CEOs’ forums, 8 Jul

Members of the media are invited to attend the South Africa-India Business Forum and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) Forum that will be hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria on Friday, 8 July 2016:

President Jacob Zuma and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be in South Africa on a two-day State Visit, will address the SA-India Business Forum.  

Members of the media who are interested in covering the forums are requested to complete the attached form and submit it to Bongani Lukhele at BLukhele@thedti.gov.za before 11am tomorrow, Thursday, 7 July 2016.

It is envisaged that several private sector agreements will be signed during the CEOs Forum.

The forums will cover a range of sectors including health-care and pharmaceuticals, financial services and insurance, mining and mineral beneficiation, infrastructure and energy, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), tourism, agro-processing, automotive and components, and chemicals.

India is South Africa’s 6th largest trade partner. Trade in 2015 was almost R95 billion. Trade with India represented 4.9% of SA imports and 4.1% of exports.

India’s exports to South Africa increased from R29 billion in 2011 to R54 billion in 2015, while South Africa’s exports to India increased from R24 billion in 2011 to R41 billion. The trade surplus is in favour of India.
