Bail for Mooi River official and driving school operator

A driving school operator and an official from the Mooi River driver testing centre in KwaZulu-Natal were granted bail of R3 800 each when they appeared in the Durban magistrate court on Monday in connection with sale learner driver licenses.

The two – Zandile Dlamini also known as Zandile Mvelase from Dedication driving school in Escourt and Skhumbuzo Innocent Ndlovu and official based at Mooi River driver testing centre, were arrested on Friday after months of investigation by the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit.

It is alleged that the Dlamini from Escourt collected money from aspirant drivers and passed it to Ndlovu who issued learner licenses without testing the candidates. The duo will appear in court again on January 30, 2018.

The arrest of the two follows the arrest of twelve officials and runners in Benoni, Gauteng and two from Secunda in Mpumalanga last month.

Further investigations are being on conducted to identify the people who obtained the people their driving documents from these officials. These individuals may face criminal charges for their involved in these fraudulent activities and their licences will be cancelled.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation calls upon members of the public to report the fraudulent issuing of licences on 0861 400 800 and the information will be treated with confidentiality.

The corrupt issuing of licences is suspected to a major contributing factor in the high number of crashes and fatalities in the country.

The RTMC is expected to make more arrests in connection with investigation that are currently underway in throughout the country.
