The Department of Safety and Liaison is intensifying the implementation of the Domestic Violence Act to reduce the spread of domestic violence in the Province of the Eastern Cape.
In strengthening the social crime prevention efforts, the department will be hosting a panel discussion as a wake-up call to the community members, and pave the way forward in overcoming a trend of worrying silence deep-rooted in the family structure.
This initiative comes as a result of research findings on domestic violence recorded in areas such as Mthatha; Lusikisiki and Engcobo.
In this regard, the religious fraternity has been identified as a key stakeholder, to spearhead the programme of restoring the moral fiber of the communities. The programme will also provide a platform for robust debate on how this wide-spread problem may be carefully dealt with.
The programme will be graced by the presence of the Honourable MEC Weziwe Tikana, the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS and a host of other high profile figures.
All members of the media fraternity are invited to be part of this massive programme in order to get first-hand information from the political leadership of the department.
