Deputy President David Mabuza embarks on COVID-19 vaccines rollout outreach programme in West Rand, 02 Sept

Deputy president David Mabuza, together with members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Covid-19 vaccines, will tomorrow, 02 September 2021, undertake a Covid-19 vaccines rollout outreach programme in Mogale City, Gauteng. The visit is aimed at assessing the province’s Covid-19 vaccines rollout programme.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Covid-19 Vaccines identified three provinces falling short on their set targets to reach population immunity, including Gauteng Province.

The IMC then resolved to visiting parts of the country experiencing challenges and identify areas of improvement.

The Deputy President will thus visit the West Rand District Municipality as it has been identified as the lowest performing sub-district, with only 8% of the total population vaccinated.

Deputy President Mabuza will be supported by members of the IMC on Covid-19 vaccines, Gauteng Premier, Mr David Makhura, Gauteng Health MEC, Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi, West Rand District Municipality Mayor, Cllr Dennis Sello Thabe and other senior government officials.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Covid-19 vaccines was established by President Ramaphosa to provide overall political oversight of the vaccination programme including its acquisition, distribution and rollout. This is done through, among others the effective collaboration between national, provincial and local government in the management, distribution and rollout of Covid-19 vaccines towards population immunity.
