Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa no longer able to attend Kgosi Mampuru II commemoration function in Limpopo

Due to pressing family commitments, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is no longer be able to honour an invitation from the Pedi-Mamone Traditional Council for him to address the 2016 Kgosi Mampuru II Commemoration Day scheduled for Saturday 23 January 2016 in Mamone, Limpopo Province.

Deputy President Ramaphosa was invited to address the commemoration service organised to honour the memory of the Kgosi Mampuru II who was publicly executed in 1883 by the Paul Kruger regime for public violence, revolt and murder of his brother King Sekhukhune. Both the Premier of Limpopo Stan Mathabathe, the Royal Family and organisers have been informed accordingly.

The event which is hosted annually will nonetheless proceed with Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Michael Masutha representing the government.

In this regard and in honour of Kgosi Mampuru II, the government has renamed the former Pretoria Central Prison after him as part of national efforts aimed at the restoration of the dignity and citizenship of the majority of South Africans denied over centuries by successive racist regimes.
