Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa opens Human Resource Development Council Summit, 29 Mar

The Deputy President of South Africa, Honourable Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, will officially open the 2nd Human Resource Development Council Summit in Gauteng province, at the Gallagher Convention Centre, on 29 to 30 March 2016 under the theme Partnerships for Skills – A call to Action.

More than 500 delegates — including senior government officials, top private sector leaders and key players from non-governmental organisation — will meet for this critical Summit to deliberate on how all the country's social partners can work together to accelerate the supply of skills specifically in critical sectors and raise South Africa's economic growth in order to reduce the three social ills of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

The Summit will also provide a progress update on the outcomes of the first Summit which was held in 2014.

The HRDC is a national, multi-tiered and multi-stakeholder advisory body that was established in March 2010. It is chaired by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and managed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Dr Blade Nzimande.

One of its key responsibilities is to build the human resource development base that is required to ensure a prosperous and inclusive South Africa.
