Deputy Minister Thabang Makwetla joins inmates on a nation wide school readiness campaign
As part of preparing schools infrastructure across the country for the 2016 academic year, the Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Mr. Thabang Makwetla will visit Makopanong Combined School in Dr J.S Moroka Municipality (formerly known as Siyabuswa) in Mpumalanga on Wednesday, 13 January 2016.
Deputy Minister Makwetla, accompanied by the local Mayor, Cllr Rose Mathabe, and the local traditional leader, Kgosi Maphuthuma, will be joined by more than 50 parolees, probationers and inmates under the Middleburg Community Corrections, for the annual Schools Clean-up campaign.
Work to be done includes cutting of grass, cultivation of school gardens, cementing of cracked floors, floor tiling, renovation of roofs, door and window repairs, repairing of bookshelves and cabinets, painting, cleaning of premises as well as repairs to ablution facilities and fencing. This will be preceded by a 15 minute motivational talk (by Dep Minister Makwetla) targeting learners.
The campaign forms part of a nation-wide programme to contribute in rehabilitation of inmates through offender labour thus advancing the DCS mandate of reducing possible re-offending and to ensure successful reintegration of ex-inmates into communities.
