Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi leads Mandela Month activities at Springfield Special School in the Vaal, 21 Jul

Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will lead Mandela Month activities at Springfield Special School on Thursday, 21 July 2016 at Kookfontein, Redan in the Vaal.

In response to the clarion call of Mandela Month theme: “Take Action. Inspire Change. And Make Every Day a Mandela Day,” the Deputy Minister adopts a school with special needs every year.  Springfield Special School is among the growing list of schools she adopted since 2010.

Springfield is a special school that caters for children leaving with mild intellectual disabilities, what was formally referred to as slow learning. Upon adoption of the school, the Deputy Minister commissioned a needs assessment which identified the various needs at the school.

The Deputy Minister will hand over the following donations / items: Hospitality Centre (Four plate stoves x 6; 47kg gas stoves x 6; Deep freezer; Microwave; Pots; Mixing bowls; Electric water boilers(Urns) x 4; Measuring cups and spoons x 4 sets; Knives x 25; Cookie cutter sets x 4 sets; Chopping boards x6 sets; Cake lifters x 4; Electric kettles x 2; Electric tin openers x 2; Casserole dishes x 4 each; Plastic dishes x 16; Aprons x 25; Disposable caps x 25; and Refrigerator), school shoes, books, paint, 4-in-1 printer, sport equipment, seedlings and hose pipes.

Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Department of Education, Sedibeng District Municipality, Emfuleni Local Municipality, Freedom Park, National Heritage Council, Rand Water, Fiber-pipe are amongst the partners and sponsors that heeded the call to Take Action. Inspire Change. And Make Every Day a Mandela Day. The Deputy Minister together with these Samaritans will also dedicate 67 minutes in honour of Madiba at the school.  

Also as part of the Department of Arts and Culture’s ‘Flag in every school campaign’, the Deputy Minister will hoist a flag at the school to continue promoting and popularising the National Flag, National Anthem, the Preamble of the Constitution and National Symbols,  thus instilling national identity and pride.
