Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete participates in the Clear Rivers campaign as part of Mandela Day, 18 Jul

Clear River campaign event with Deputy Minister Tshwete at Mzingwenya River, Eskhawini

The Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mrs Pamela Tshwete, together with the Mhlathuze Water Board and officials, will participate in a Clear Rivers campaign event at Eskhawini, KwaZulu-Natal.

The Clear Rivers campaign is closely associated with the volunteer activities that are linked to Mandela Month. The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) is therefore leading a campaign of clearing streams, wetlands, rivers and others forms of freshwater ecosystems.

Linking this campaign to Mandela Month is in line with the call by the State President in the State of the Nation Address of 2014, when the call was made that all South Africans, in the spirit of volunteerism, should dedicate 67 minutes towards cleaning South Africa.

The Department of Water and Sanitation therefore encourages institutions and communities to participate in the campaign by cleaning up a stream, river, wetland or any other freshwater ecosystem in their environs.

The media is invited as follows:
Date: Monday, 18 July 2016
Venue: Mzingwenya River at the Gobandlovu Bridge in Eskhawini
Time: 09h00 (Deputy Minister will arrive at the Mhlathuze Head office at 08h00 for a briefing session)

Members of the media are cordially invited to cover the event. To RSVP, kindly contact Mbali Mahaye at mahayem@dws.gov.za or 082 601 5674 / Zanele Bingwa at zbingwa@mhlathuze.co.za or 083 2011 914.
