Deputy Minister Obed Bapela tour Denel Land Systems and Pretoria Metal Pressings as part of oversight visits to operations of SOE's, 12 May

The Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Obed Bapela, will tomorrow, 12th May 2023, conduct a site visit to Denel Land Systems (DLS) and Denel Pretoria Metal Pressings (PMP), as part of his oversight visits to operations of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) in the Department’s portfolio.

Mr Bapela last week visited SAFCOL operations in Mpumalanga and tomorrow will be touring the Denel SOC Limited facilities, to see the operations and understand the opportunities that are available at arms and technology manufacturer, Denel.

After years of decline due to state capture and corruption, Denel is implementing a comprehensive strategy for the stabilisation and restructuring of Denel with the aim to rebuild the reputation and capabilities of the company. The Denel Group has been capitalised by R3.4 billion to implement its turnaround plan, to rebuild the state arms and technology manufacturer.

The company has a R12 billion order book over the current business plan cycle to implement with the potential to grow the order book to R30 billion in the medium term.

Deputy Minister Bapela will be accompanied by Denel Board members and Interim DLS CEO, Mr William Hlakoane as well as PMP CEO, Mr Phaladi Petje.

The tour will start at the DLS. The Denel Land Systems is world renowned in the designing, manufacturing, maintenance of towed and self-propelled artillery weapons, infantry systems, combat turrets and a range of infantry weapons. These include the New Generation Infantry Combat Vehicle System (Badger/Hoefyster), Turret Systems, Rooikat, G5 and G6 Artillery and other infantry combat systems.

The delegation will proceed to Pretoria Metal Pressings based in Pretoria West. The PMP is an integrated manufacturer of small- and medium-calibre ammunition, brass products, detonics, power cartridges and mining drill-bits.
