Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha opens first Limpopo Deeds Registry Office

The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Mcebisi Skwatsha today (05 April 2017) presided over the opening of the first Limpopo Deeds Registry office. According to the Deputy Minister this historic event forms part of strengthening government’s commitment to provide better access to deeds services to the people of the province.

“As a department we are bringing the service closer to the people. Those who now want to register deeds documents are welcome and hope the people of Limpopo will take advantage of this office urged” Skwatsha.

The benefits of this important milestone are two-fold: Firstly, it will serve in the interest of the promotion of better and accessible services that are decentralised to the broader citizenry of the province. Secondly, there will be increased access to information and deeds registration services. Both benefits will result in improved service delivery that is client-centric said the Deputy Minister Skwatsha.

A Deeds Registry in Limpopo province is established to increase the organisational foot print resulting in enhanced accessibility to services provided to current and potential clients. The existence of this office will reduce work load in certain provinces, concluded the Deputy Minster Skwatsha.

“The time of travelling long distances and paying lot of money on transport to register deeds is over because that is not in line with the constitution”, said the Chief Registrar of Deeds Ms Carlize Knoesen.

In the past the deeds service delivery model in the Limpopo province was such that clients travelled long distances in order to access Deeds Registry services, resulting in them incurring unnecessary costs. There was no Deeds Registry in the Limpopo Province and clients from the province were being serviced by the Pretoria Deeds Registry.

Approximately 361 672 land parcels of the Limpopo Deeds Registry were handled by the Pretoria Deeds Registry, and 2 226 land parcels of Limpopo Deeds Registry were handled by the Mpumalanga Deeds Registry. Upon the separation of the land parcels from the Pretoria and Mpumalanga Deeds Registries, the Limpopo Deeds Registry will have an approximate total of 36 3898 land parcels.  It is envisaged that the project will contribute towards the realisation of the project objectives as well as those of the South African government’s transformation programme.

Accordingly, the department has appointed well qualified Chief Registrar of Deeds as well a capable Registrar of Deeds to man the Limpopo Office.

The office building is situated at 101 Dorp Street near the Provincial Hospital in Polokwane under the Capricorn district. The Office of the Surveyor General is also housed in the same premises.
