Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha will handover Financial Compensation for Land Restitution to the Qelana Community outside Mthatha - Eastern Cape
Members of the media are hereby invited to cover a handover of financial compensation for the Restitution of land rights, which will be awarded by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform; Honourable Mcebisi Skwatsha, to the Qelana Community outside Mthatha, Eastern Cape, on the 06 March 2017.
This community Land Claim comprises of families which were forcefully removed from the claimed property during 1957-1964, due to racial discriminatory laws. The Qelana Community Land Claim is made up of 178 original individuals who were dispossessed and there are 2000 land restitution beneficiaries, who are direct descendants of this community that will benefit from the compensation. Hon. Deputy Minister Skwatsha will also brief other communities on the status of their claim.
The Commission on Restitution of Land Rights is committed in Reversing the Legacy of 1913 Natives Land Act and thus by restoring dignity of the communities we serve.
