Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will unveil the statue and deliver the annual memorial lecture of Zola Nqini on Wednesday, 09 December 2015 at Uitenhage Town Hall in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
Zola Nqini was born and bred in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, both his parents were teachers. He also became a teacher as well after studying at Lovedale College and Fort Hare University. He was one of the pioneers who formed the ANC’s Military Wing, Umkhonto Wesizwe in the early 60s and belonged to the Luthuli detachment.
Zola Nqini is an unsung hero who contributed immensely to the liberation struggle until his tragic death in Lesotho where he was appointed by the late OR Tambo as the ANC Chief Representative.
This year marks his second annual memorial lecture and it will be preceded by the unveiling of his statue.
