Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, will officially open the Bolokanang Community Library and launch the R120 million Mzansi Libraries Online on Thursday, 31 March 2016, in Petrusburg, Free State.
The library was built at a cost of approximately R15 million. It was funded from the Community Library Conditional Grant which is made available by the Department of Arts and Culture to provincial departments to transform and upgrade public library services in the country.
Bolokanang Library was developed as a dual purpose library which will be rendering services to the general community of Bolokanang as well as to schools.
As part of the official opening of Bolokanang Community Library, the Deputy Minister will also launch the R120 million Mzansi Libraries Online project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A total of 667 public libraries across the country will benefit from the project.
Each of these 667 libraries will receive 30 computers, tablets, printers, scanners, educational computer games and training programmes for the staff, technological equipment for people living with disabilities, etc. A Wi-Fi area will also be available for users wanting to use their own equipment such as smart phones, tablets and laptops.
Both the official opening of the Bolokanang Community Library and the launch of the Mzansi Libraries Online project marks the culmination of the Library Month themed #Libraries4LifeLongLearning.
