Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi launches National Identity Radio Campaign, 4 Feb

Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, will on Thursday, 4 February 2016 launch the National Identity Radio Campaign at Mochochonono Primary school in Moletsane Soweto in partnership with SABC Education under the slogan, “Afurika Tshipembe lashu”, meaning Our South Africa.

“Through this partnership, the department envisages to reach All South Africans, schools, the young & the old, different racial groups, civil organisations or formations including business in an attempt to strengthen relations amongst fellow South Africans towards a common identity” said Mabudafhasi.

“The SABC is proud to be partnering with the Department of Arts and Culture and this further entrenches the SABC’s Vision of inspiring change through enriching, credible, relevant and compelling content that is accessible by all,” says the Group Executive: Corporate Affairs, Ms Sully Motsweni. 

The 9 week-long comprehensive radio campaign seeks to foster, promote and entrench national consciousness, social cohesion, nation building and patriotism in society. This campaign entails promos and fillers, interviews and discussions on various education and current affairs programmes across the 11 languages, thus continuing the substantial work already done by Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi through Department of Arts and Culture’s, “Flag in every School campaign” since 2014.

On that day, learners from different schools across the country are expected to sing the National Anthem at 7h45, to mark the official launch of the National Identity campaign.

“Tim Tebeila Foundation’s partnership with Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi is to effectively implement Arts, Culture and Heritage in schools, and promote careers in the creative arts within their curriculum. Some of our objectives as a foundation being involved in this the campaign are to improved levels of social cohesion and patriotism in society, increased involvement of learners/students in the affairs of the state, celebrate our history and to raise awareness on our institutions that promotes democracy” said Dr Tim Tebeila.

Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi will be joined by the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Mr Enver Surty, SABC Group Executive Corporate Affairs, Ms Sully Motsweni and Dr Tim Tebeila, Social Cohesion Ambassadors and Living Legends during the singing of the National Anthem at Mochochonono Primary School.
