Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to honour the late liberation struggle heroine Josephine Moshobane in Soweto
Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi will officiate the unveiling of the tombstone of the late liberation struggle Josephine Moshobane at Ekhaya Centre, Diepkloof on Friday, 18 December 2015.
The event is part of the broader Department of Arts and Culture’s programme on the Liberation Heritage Route to celebrate unsung heroes and heroines of the struggle against Apartheid.
The unveiling of the tombstone also forms part of the Reconciliation Month activities. The 2015 Reconciliation Month takes place under the theme, “Bridging the divide: Building a common South African nationhood towards a national developmental state.” The theme enjoins citizens to unite in a sense of belonging and pride and also reminds us that we should strengthen relations with fellow South Africans and those who reside in the country, build a future where we all live together in harmony and embrace the common ties that binds us rather than focus on that which divides us as a nation.
Josephine Moshobane, a student at the time was detained during winter holidays of 1985 by the Apartheid Security Police. Upon her release she had suffered injuries to her brain and as a result passed on at Leratong Hospital.
The ceremony will start in the morning at the Ekhaya Centre and will proceed to the Avalon Cemetery to unveil the tombstone.
