Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu launches a multi-media centre for students with disabilites at Vhembe TVET, Limpopo Province.
The Deputy Minter of Social Development Ms Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, in partnership with the MTN SA Foundation, will launch a multimedia centre for students with disabilities at Vhembe TVET in Makwarele Campus, Limpopo on Thursday 29 April 2021.The launch forms part of a longstanding Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Department and the MTN SA Foundation.
The accessible multimedia centre with connectivity at MTN’s cost for 24 months is a twenty seater with disability specific programs to cater for students with multiple disabilities. The centre is also fitted with an interactive board that allows the lecturer to present the class modules to the students with special needs.
The Deputy Minister has identified Vhembe TVET collage due to it being amongst the TVET collages that have a high number of diverse students with disabilities. This lab will also enable deaf students to access education such as a video camera and a braille printer (for the blind) are amongst the hardware to be handed over. As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Covid 19 has brought that closer to home.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of struggle icon and human rights campaigner Charlotte Maxeke. She and other selfless women of her generation fought against oppression at a time when such defiance was met with unrelenting force. Freedom month is celebrated under the theme “The Year of Charlotte Maxeke: the Meaning of Freedom under COVID-19”.
