Deputy Minister Buti Manamela visits University of Cape Town following the devastating wildfire, 24 Apr

Deputy Minister Buti Manamela will visit the University Of Cape Town (UCT) following the gutting of the university’s African Studies Library, Memorial Restaurant and parts of the campus, which led to the evacuation of students. The fire at the UCT sites was a result of the wildfire that ignited on the slopes of Table Mountain on Sunday, 18 April 2021.

Deputy Minister Manamela, accompanied by the Higher Health Chief Executive Officer, Professor Ramneek Ahluwalia, will meet with the UCT management team and also do a walk-about of the university sites that were impacted by the fire.

Working closely with UCT management, Higher Health is already assisting the UCT community with mental health and psychosocial debriefing, as well as other essential support. Higher Health is the health and wellness implementing agency of the Department of Higher Education and Training.
