Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Buti Manamela will tomorrow 22 February hold an Imbizo in the community of Nyanga.
The Imbizo is aimed at tackling the social ills that young people face in the community. The major social ill being substance abuse which is a hindrance to their development and robs them of a bright future.
The combating substance abuse is one of the pillars of the National Youth Polity 2015 - 2020 (NYP 2020). Policy proposals of the NYP 2020 include the development of adequate recreational activities as a diversion from alcohol and drug abuse. Municipal by-laws to be enforced to ensure the restriction of access to alcohol as a preventative measure abuse.
These proposals will come under the spotlight as young people engage with government and solutions are sought.
About 2000 Young people in High Schools, out of school and unemployed youth will participate at the Imbizo.
