Deputy Minister Buti Manamela hosts a Musicians Indaba at Soweto Theatre, 11 Aug

Deputy Minister Buti Manamela calls on all recorded musicians to attend the Musicians Indaba

Deputy Minister in the Presidency and Chairperson of the Presidential Task Team on Creative Industries, Mr Buti Manamela will convene a Musicians Indaba on 11 August 2017 at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani.

The Indaba is the first of consultations within the creative sector including theatre, dance, film, visual arts, crafts etc. The Indaba will focus on performers in the music sector i.e. instrumentalists, composers, lyricists and vocalists.

Previous engagements with this sector have been with organised bodies and music business representatives. The Musicians Indaba will provide a platform for performing artists in the music sector to engage with the state on issues affecting them as creative industries practitioners. It will also offer the Presidential Task Team the space to provide feedback on the work of the task team since June 2015, when Deputy Minister Buti Manamela was appointed Chairperson.

This platform is also an opportunity to revisit matters raised in the past that musicians still find challenging. It will also provide government departments and state institutions within the creative industries environment an opportunity to bring their services to the musicians.

The outcomes of the Musicians Indaba will be channeled back to the Presidential task team for fast-tracked resolutions.

The Presidential Task Team on Creative Industries is comprised of the following Deputy Ministers

  1. Arts and Culture, Ms Maggie Sotyu
  2. Trade and Industry, Mr Gratitude Magwanishe
  3. Communications, Ms Tandi Mahambehlala
  4. Social Development, Ms Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu,
  5. Higher Education, Mr Mduduzi Manana,
  6. Finance, Sfiso Buthelezi
  7. Police, Mr Bongani Mkongi.
