Deputy Minister Bulelani Magwanishe hands over school desks, bookshelves and photocopy machine, 3 Jun

The Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises Mr Bulelani Magwanishe, will on 3 June 2016, hand over 100 school desks, 100 bookshelves and a photocopy machine to Kufakwezwe Secondary School in Thulamahashe, Bushbuckridge. This will be followed by a graduation ceremony at Platorand Training Centre, Sabie for graduates who have been trained in furniture production.

This programme follows the Deputy Minister’s visit to the school in November last year, preceding President Zuma’s Siyahlola programme in the area at the time.

The furniture is availed by SAFCOL, a timber producing state owned entity under the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE). Working together with SAFCOL, DPE has constructed a number of community centres and early learning centres using timber structures.

The department considers timber to be an essential product for the industrialisation programme as it is easy to construct buildings and other appliances for both corporate and residential use. Timber is easy to maintain and environmentally friendly as it is warm during cold climate conditions and cooler during hot climate conditions.

The production of the school furniture is therefore part of the department’s programme to exploit timber to supply furniture, building for residential and corporate use and for various products needed for household and corporate use.

Members of the media are hereby invited to be part of this special handover event which will take place as follows:
