Deputy Minister Bulelani Magwanishe congratulates Denel for giving hope to learners

The Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Bulelani Magwanishe, today lauded the State-Owned Company, Denel, for their groundbreaking mathematics and physical science programmes for Grade 12 learners in the country.

He was addressing 80 graduates and parents at a ceremony themed: Developing Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics Education for South Africa’s economic growth in Pretoria.

Denel offers mathematics and physical science to high school learners, bursaries and internships at the different Denel’s Internship Programmes. Amongst the graduates of the Denel mathematics and science programme, were Ernest Mollele from Reiger Park Senior Secondary and Abongile Booi from Vaal Reefs Techincal School, North West. Both obtained distinctions in mathematics and physical science in the 2015 final exams.

Mollele obtained 8 distinctions, while Booi got 100% in physical science and 99% in mathematics. Denel also honoured bursary holders at higher education institutions who excelled.

“Denel taught us never to deprive people of hope. Hope never abandons people and it is people who give hope. The graduates have showed us education is a hope for tomorrow. They rose above the challenges of yesterday to start a new chapter in their lives, like OR Tambo, who was the top maths and science learner in the old Transvaal, you represent excellence. Go and be the physicians for the country’s challenges,” said Deputy Minister Magwanishe.
