Deputy Minister Bheki Cele embarks on youth empowerment initiative during Youth Month at Umzumbe , 9 Jun

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, General Bheki Cele will  embark on a number of sector expos and other youth empowerment initiatives during the month of June 2017.

To kickstart the commemorative activities, the Deputy Minister  will be accompanied by the Kwazulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Themba  Mthembu and Umzumbe Local Municipality  Mayor Cllr SR Ngcobo,  at , the DAFF Youth Career Expo which will be held in Esibanini.

The Deputy Minister will engage with unemployed youth and students with the aim of sharing information with them about the diverse career opportunities available in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors.

Sector expos are aimed at cultivating an affinity between the sector and young people and are also aimed at empowering youngsters through information sharing and showcasing available opportunities.

This initiative will further create a platform for different stakeholders such as the Ugu Development Agency and other youth development programmes to interact with the youth in an effort to motivate and upskill upcoming and existing young producers.

By launching the first ever #Agri-Stars event in Pretoria in 2016,General Cele has been successful in accelerating youth recognition and forging more participation by the youth in agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

More than 500 youth, including graduates who are part of the Mphunyuka Agricultural Cooperative, which farms in organic crop production are expected to attend.

The expo will be hosted under the theme “Harnessing investment for youth empowerment towards South Africa’s economic development and future prosperity”.
