North West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements partners with OFM to donate bottled water to drought stricken Mamusa

As the heat wave continues to sweep through most parts of the country including the North West province, the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements continues to forge partnership with various sectors to mitigate the drought situation.

Acting MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Fenny Gaolaolwe has welcomed the donation by OFM radio station which has recently donated 21 000 bottles of water through their H2O campaign (Help to Others). The 5 litre water bottles will be distributed throughout the drought stricken areas within Mamusa local municipality.

“We are very pleased by the contribution made by OFM. It is very heart warming and encouraging that businesses are heeding our call of working with government to make sure that we tackle the issue of drought head on such that we lessen its effect on human lives.  We are still calling on all sectors of our communities especially businesses to make their contribution.

Drought is a natural phenomenon that is beyond all of us, all we can do at the moment is to work together to find ways of dealing with the situation. Mamusa has been gravely affected by drought and thus far we have, through the Department of Water and Sanitation, dispatched water trucks to the tankers to supplement our main sources’’, said MEC Gaolaolwe.

Meanwhile, OFM General Manager, Nick Efstathiou said “every human being and every animal needs clean water to survive. Through the H2O campaign, OFM hopes to bring some relief to areas where taps and dams have long since run dry. We want to call on every loyal listener in Central South Africa to support this worthy project.

OFM is calling on its loyal listeners to help those communities suffering as a result of the current drought. South Africans have always proved that they can rise to the occasion to help fellow South Africans in need. Experience has taught us that central South Africans are especially warm-hearted when it comes to the plight of those that desperately need help’’, said Efstathiou.
