MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe addresses Provincial Education Summit, 9 to 10 May

The department is working hard to improve quality of education

Working together we move education forward. These are the words of the Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Education Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe. To realise this, the MEC has since instructed the hosting of the Provincial Education Summit under the theme: Putting teaching and learning at the centre of all activities: Limpopo on the move.

The Provincial Education Summit was preceded by the similar events in all the five districts where MEC Kgetjepe did not just address but also attend to the end including in commissions.

“We cannot afford to continue to perform poorly when we can improve” He told delegates in districts summits. It was realised through rigorous discussions at these summits that there is a need to work with all stakeholders in support of the idea if improving learner achievement in the Province.

Limpopo 2015 National Senior Certificate results declined by 7% compared to the 2014 results. These results indicated that there was a need for improvement in literacy and numeracy hence a need for the summit.

The summit will offer foundation phase practitioners, circuit managers, curriculum advisors, university lecturers, teacher unions and community organisations the platform to engage with a view to offer intervention strategies for improved learner performance in the province. Also attending are traditional, religious and Civic Structure leaders.

Experts and Presenters are going to present and facilitate the discussions.

The two day Provincial Education Summit will be held as follows:

Venue: Meropa Casino Hotten, Polokwane
Date:  9 to 10 May 2016
Time: 8h00

Media houses are invited to the morning session of this event to be addressed by the MEC and the Premier of Limpopo, Mr Chupu Mathabatha.
