Social Development hosts National Disability Rights Summit, 10 to 12 Mar

The Department of Social Development and the South African Disability Sector will co-host a Disability Rights Summit from 10 to 12 March 2016 at Saint Georges Hotel, Centurion. The purpose is to analyse and convert the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities into realisable outcomes through practical implementation.

President Zuma is expected to deliver a keynote address and officially open the Summit and launch the policy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

“The White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is a crucial step along the journey of improving the lives of persons with disabilities. It moves us closer to a fully inclusive society for all as envisioned in the Freedom Charter which unambiguously stated that South Africa belongs to all who live in it” said Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini.

Parallel to the summit, the first meeting of the Presidential Working Group on Disability will take place with President Jacob Zuma to finalise the work streams and the programme of action for the working group.

“The Department of Social Development will continue its commitment towards the agenda of social transformation that is embodied in the principle of social justice and the Bill of Rights contained in our Constitution” said Minister Dlamini.

Members of the media are invited to cover the Summit as follows:
Date: 10 to 12 March 2016
