Department ready to deal with havoc caused by heavy storms

The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, working with all relevant stakeholders is geared up to deal with incidents of disaster as most parts of the province started to experience heavy rainfalls that wreaked havoc since the start of the week.

Bojanala Platinum district has been worst hit by thunderstorms with at least 15 houses damaged in areas such as Rabokala, Kgabalatsane, Skierlik, Letlhabile, Mothotlung, Mamogaleskraal, Segwaelane, Winderkop, Oukasie and Letlhakaneng in Madibeng local municipality. In Rustenburg, eight houses have been damaged and five roofs blown away in Moretele local municipality.

Ventersdorp has only one roof shack blown away in Tshing township whereas in Tlokwe, only one shack burnt down in Ikageng’s Extension 7 and one restaurant partly burnt near Potch Dam.

A house was been burnt down in Moshwana village and one house roof blown away in Tlapeng village near Ganyesa in Kagisano-Molopo local municipality.

The Acting MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, Wendy Nelson confirmed that in all the areas, a team of disaster management officials together with officials from SASSA have been dispatched to assess the extent of damaged causes in order to determine the type of social relief needed for distressed families.
