Delegates from the private security industry will converge to Ilanga Estate in Bloemfontein, Free State, as they heed the clarion call by the Department of Labour to participate in a two-day private security seminar. This seminar will be held from the 30 – 31 March 2016 from 9h00 am for both days.
Held under the theme, “Improved compliance in the private security sector”, this seminar is aimed at congregating captains of the security industry and officials of the Department of Labour, stakeholders in the sector and other interested parties to deliberate upon issues pertaining the industry with specific focus on compliance with labour legislation.
To that effect, this seminar was preceded by the blitz inspections at various companies in the Free State province which were conducted from the 15 -17 March 2016. Out of 26 inspections conducted only 3 companies were found to be fully compliant with all prescripts of labour legislation.
The high level of non-compliance was on the Sectoral Determination 6 of the security sector, the Employment Equity and the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) prescripts.
“This inspection report goes to show that a lot of work still needs to be done in this sector. It also goes to show that there was absolute necessity for the hosting of this seminar, through which we expect to see some commitment from all role players within the sector”, said Ms. Nomfundo Douw-Jack – the Provincial Chief Inspector for Free State.
“Further discussions on non-compliance within the private security sector are envisaged and these will influence discussions during the seminar,” she added.
In attendance will be a high level delegation from the National Department of Labour led by Deputy Director General for Inspections and Enforcement Services Ms. Agnes Moiloa and Chief Director: Provincial Operations Ms. Marsh Bronkhorst. Representatives from the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), Organised Labour, PSiRA, Private Security Provident Fund and other sister departments such as Home Affairs and SAPS will also grace the occasion.
Paving the way for this seminar is the hosting of a special training for shop stewards which took place earlier today. The training is intended to capacitate these shop stewards with knowledge, insight and information regarding labour legislation.
