Labour hosts Driven Machinery Regulations workshop, 19 Feb

The Department of Labour under the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering directorate, will be hosting a workshop on Driven Machinery Regulations in the Mpumalanga province (19 February 2019).

The workshop will bring together occupational health and safety inspectors, casino property owners, smelters, lifting machinery associations, lifting machinery entities, factories and lifting machinery training providers.

The workshop aims to promote health and safety within the Driven Machinery industry and will also sensitize attending stakeholders on the latest developments on the Driven Machinery regulations.

The driven machineries include conveyors, cranes, compressors, lifts, air cutting machine, chillers, CNC machines and all machines in the plant.

The Driven Machinery regulations establish procedures for dealing with driven machinery in the workplace and regulate enforcement of the law.

The workshop will amongst others unpack procedures on the role of the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) on imported lifting machines, safety of woodworking machines, compliance of air-conditioning plants with regulations and noise induced hearing loss.  

Electrical and Mechanical Engineering is a directorate under the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch and it manages the development of electrical and mechanical regulations.
