North West Local Government and Human Settlements on service delivery in Dithakwaneng

Department delivers water and roads for Dithakwaneng residents

The North West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements has once again delivered on its commitment of providing important basic services such as water, roads and storm water drainage system. Residents of Dithakwaneng near Vyburg in the Naledi local municipality now have water taps in their yards, better roads and storm water drainage system.

As part of providing rural housing projects with water, roads and storm water drainage, the department contracted a supplier in a 24 million rand project last year, to install internal services (water reticulation, gravel roads and storm water drainage) for 600 sites in Dithakwaneng village in the Naledi local municipality. The internal services are being provided for houses that were built in 2008 by the department.

A delighted Mummy Makwati (55) couldn’t stop praising the department of delivering in its promises. “We have been travelling distances to collect water in tankers now I have my very own tap in my yards. I don’t have travel anymore” said Makwati.

MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements Fenny Gaolaolwe “as the provincial government we have committed to better the life's of our people and we are going to continue in other areas. We appeal to contractors to ensure that they complete projects in time because we don’t want our people to wait any longer before they are provided with basic service. We can’t deny them their basic rights”.

The current the project is at 80% and the completion is expected at the end of October 2016. There are also talks with the contractor to install the same services to 88 houses which were built in the 2008 housing project. Kgosi Mahura who was part of the project visit, appealed to MEC Gaolalwe to ensure the installation of services in other houses.

”I would appreciate if all housing units in the area have common services so that other people are not left out without such basic services” remarked Kgosi Mahura.

A proposal has been put to relocate the developer to this area to provide water, roads and storm water.

MEC Fenny Gaolaolwe proceeded to inspect over 200 million rand housing project in Huhudi Ext.28 and 25 which was completed recently. The project yielded 1 500 housing units and residents have already occupied the houses recently. The department is to fast track provision of title deeds to residents.

Housing project inspection is continuing in Kagisano Molopo local municipality over this Friday.
