Hawks arrests Chinese national for rhino horn dealing

Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime members at the OR Tambo International Airport have on Wednesday afternoon arrested a Chinese national for dealing in rhino horn worth an estimated value of R6.6 million. A routine search was conducted and police recovered eighteen rhino horns weighing about 43kg concealed in his travelling bags.

The 28 year-old male who was in transit from Namibia to board a South African Airways flight to Hong Kong was immediately arrested. He will appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court for dealing in rhino horn under the Endangered Spices Act on Friday, 25 November 2016.
