The Sector Parliament is a public participation initiative of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), aimed at creating a platform for meaningful engagement between public representatives and Commercial Sex Workers. It seeks to destigmatise, encourage engagements and recognise the work done to improve the understanding of the sex work environment.

The Sector Parliament will also present an opportune platform for the sharing of much needed knowledge about current challenges facing commercial sex workers. This includes HIV prevention, existing support services for commercial sex workers and empowerment opportunities concerning their rights, access to health and well-being.

Topics to be discussed:

  • Review of government stance on the involvement of commercial sex workers during policy review.
  • Plans to hound underage sex workers influx in the industry, is there an alternative?
  • Access to the justice system, the battle for survival in the face of human trafficking, abusive clients and police heavy handedness.
