Parliament on programme for 22 to 26 February 2016

Minister of Finance Mr Pravin Gordhan’s Budget speech, the introduction of the Appropriation Bill and the tabling of the Division of Revenue Bill take centre stage at Parliament this week, along with some 39 meetings of different parliamentary Committees.

Subjects on the agendas of these Committee meetings include briefings by departments on their annual reports, quarterly reports and draft legislation. Briefings by Ministers are also scheduled to examine the implementation of aspects of the State of the Nation Address particular to their portfolios.

There will also be briefings on the newly established Broad-Based Economic Empowerment Commission, the 2014 Defence Review, transformation in sport (rugby, cricket, football, netball and athletics), match-fixing in cricket, and briefings from state entities such as the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa and Transnet.

The Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment Bill, the Higher Education Amendment Bill and the Films and Publications Board Amendment Bill will be considered by the relevant Committees.

On Thursday, Minister Gordhan will brief the Select Committee on Appropriations and the Select Committee on Finance on the 2016 national Budget. On Friday, the National Treasury will brief the Select Committee on Appropriation on the 2016 Division of Revenue Bill.
